Chikara is a systemic and residual granular herbicide for the control of annual and perennial weeds on natural or permeable surfaces not intended to bear vegetation.
  • Pre-emergent and early post emergent* activity
  • Systemic and residual mode of action
  • Long lasting and broad spectrum weed control
  • Easy to mix water dispersible granules
  • Low application rate for cost-effective control
How Chikara works
Chikara is absorbed by the plant roots and shoots and is translocated through the xylem and phloem to the meristematic zone where it inhibits acetolactate synthase, a key enzyme involved in amino-acid synthesis.

Following application, Chikara moves into the upper surface layers of the soil but does not inhibit seed germination. When plant roots and shoots emerge from the seed they absorb the active ingredient from the surrounding soil. The seedlings may at first appear to develop normally until they reach the 2-3 leaf stage. Many affected weed seedlings may never emerge above soil level but those that do will exhibit yellowing or reddening of the leaves, become necrotic and die rapidly.

Where to use Chikara
For use on surfaces not intended to bear vegetation, permeable surfaces overlying soil or on hard surfaces composed of gravel or railway ballast. This wide variety of amenity situations, offers a high level of versatility and cost savings.

Areas include:
  • Fence lines
  • Highways & drives
  • Oil & gas storage sites
  • Sewerage & water works
  • Park obstacles & furniture
  • Electricity sub stations
  • Railway tracks
  • Golf courses & schools
  • Cemeteries
  • Industrial sites
  • Housing estates
  • Power stations
Chikara can be used effectively BEFORE the laying of such surfaces as tennis courts and asphalt driveways. Treat immediately before laying down the surface to prevent weeds germinating and breaking through the surface.

Note: If weeds have emerged at the time of application, Chikara should be mixed with the recommended rate of glyphosate, depending on the weed size and species present.

Chikara cannot be used on non-porous, man made surfaces such as paved areas, concrete, tarmac car parks and footpaths AND must not be used around non-target amenity vegetation.

How to use Chikara
Applied at any time of the year. However best results are achieved when sprayed in early spring before weeds germinate. Where the site has established weeds Chikara should be tank-mixed with an appropriate amount of a glyphosate-based herbicide. Apply when weeds are small and actively growing.

Equipment Rate of Chikara Water Volume Area
Power Sprayer 150g 200 - 600 litres 1 ha
Knapsack Sprayer 15g 15 litres 1000 M2

It is recommended that the knapsack is fitted with a 1 bar flow regulator + Polijet ANO.6 deflector nozzle (0.5m swath width). Applications should be made at a forward walking speed of 3mph. This combination will deliver 150 litres/ha of spray solution applying a coarse, low drift spray quality. Each 15 litre of spray solution will cover 1,000 sq.m.

Ensure that the knapsack or power sprayer tanks are thoroughly washed out with an ammonium based cleaning agent before undertaking any other spraying operation as traces of Chikara may cause harm to other susceptible plants sprayed later.

Where the site has established weeds, Chikara should be tank-mixed with an appropriate amount of a glyphosate based herbicide. Apply when weeds are small and actively growing.
